چکیده

We propose a new routing protocol suite composed of the Tapestry routing and location protocol over the IP routing protocol(TAP/IP) to increase the probability that a packet delivered by the routing layer will successfully reach it’s destination. This will benefit any transport layer, such as TCP, that uses timeouts to determine when it should retransmit packets. Tapestry is the routing/location protocol used in the Oceanstore system that is able to route to a particular object regardless of it s current location in the network. It s main benefit thusfar is location independence. We will be assuming that the location of a data object has been ascertained and will be investigating the feasibility of Tapestry routing. Our hope is to beat the current IP protocol in packet loss and throughput with two mechanisms we added to tapestry: packet duplication/redundant routing, and adaptive routing and one mechanism that is inherent in tapestry: load-balancing through randomization. The TAP/IP suite will be compared to the standard IP suite on packet loss rate and throughput. Microbenchmarks measured on the pair of suites will be the average latency of travel along paths and the standard deviation of latency along paths. The three mechanisms above help us outperform IP on all four metrics.

Tapestry: An Infrastructure for Fault-tolerant Wide-area Location and Routing

In today’s chaotic network, data and services are mobile and replicated widely for availability, durability, and locality. Components within this infrastructure interact in rich and complex ways, greatly stressing traditional approaches to name service and routing. This paper explores an alternative to traditional approaches called Tapestry. Tapestry is an overlay location and routing infrastru...

A Decentralized Location and Routing Infrastructure for Fault-tolerant Wide-area Network Applications

Today’s Moore’s Law increases in computational power and network bandwidth, combined with the increasing reach of networks into diverse environments and devices, offer new opportunities to and stretch the bounds of traditional network applications. Distributed Data Location in a Dynamic Network

Modern networking applications replicate data and services widely, leading to a need for locationindependent routing – the ability to route queries directly to objects using names that are independent of the objects’ physical locations. Two important properties of a routing infrastructure are routing locality and rapid adaptation to arriving and departing nodes. We show how these two properties...

The Bi-Objective Location-Routing Problem based on Simultaneous Pickup and Delivery with Soft Time Window

The location-routing problem is the most significant and yet new research field in location problems that considers simultaneously vehicle routing problem features with original one for achieving high-quality integrated distribution systems in beside of the global optimum. Simultaneous pickup and delivery based on time windows are the two main characteristics of logistic management that have be...

Exploiting Routing Redundancy via Structured Peer-to-Peer Overlays

Structured peer-to-peer overlays provide a natural infrastructure for resilient routing via efficient fault detection and precomputation of backup paths. These overlays can respond to faults in a few hundred milliseconds by rapidly shifting between alternate routes. In this paper, we present two adaptive mechanisms for structured overlays and illustrate their operation in the context of Tapestr...
